| Oil is a big part of Bakersfield's economy. There are derricks scattered throughout the town. They are pretty smelly if you get close to them. |

| Kern River Trail goes many miles from Bakersfield all the way to I-5. It's in excellent condition with hardly any cracks, and there are many people out jogging, walking, and cycling. It runs along the Kern River (which is mostly dry), downtown, and California State University at Bakersfield. |
