Historic Locke, California is just south of Sacramento. With shops, restaurants, and museums, Locke makes for an interesting drive out to the river delta. Read my full review after the break.

After our lunch at Al's Place, we strolled around Locke. The entire town is a historic district. There's a main street with several museums, shops, and restaurants. And people still live here.

In 1915, a group of Chinese businessmen moved out of neighboring Walnut Grove and built their own town. Much of it still stands today.

When you get hungry, you can stop in for a steak and a few drinks at Al's Place (read my review of Al's here). Or try the Chinese food down the street at Locke Garden Restaurant.

TIPS --

  • Check the Locke web site before you go to check the museum hours. They were closed when we went.
  • Locke gets very hot in the summer. It's right on the Sacramento River in the delta.
  • Weekends can be very crowded, especially during the summer.
Have you visited a historic site lately? Let me know in the comments below.
