Happy Hour at Alameda Brewhouse in Portland's Beaumont district

After our visit to Pip's Original mini donuts yesterday morning, we walked along Fremont Street in the Beaumont district of Portland. Nearby we came across the Alameda Brewhouse. We're from Alameda (in California, not Oregon) so we wondered about the name, and one of the owners told us there is a neighborhood nearby with that name. But also, the other owner is a fan of the Oakland Raiders whose training camp is in Alameda. So kind of fitting that we should try it, right? She told us they serve a daily happy hour, and we returned later in the day for a few happy hour beers and dinner. Read my full review of Alameda Brewhouse after the break.

This place puts the brew in brewhouse. There are twenty tanks which you can see behind the bar and along the side of the restaurant. The selection is very good and the staff is knowledgable about which beers we should try. The ales are $3.50 during happy hour and we enjoyed a few.

And the food was very good, too. We skipped the happy hour menu in favor of an early dinner, and my wife had the Reuben sandwich. This was really good. They added some cheddar cheese (we're near Tillamook, after all), and of course the pastrami was braised in their own beer. The sauerkraut was called winekraut for obvious reasons This was a great sandwich, and so big we took half of it back to the hotel.

I had the chicken Caesar salad. Maybe not an exciting choice on my part, but it was big, very fresh, and exactly what I was looking for after all the donuts we ate earlier in the day.

On the side we had crab bisque and a salad. The bisque was full of crab, and the salad was very fresh. Both were good choices.

Great beers, good food, and it's named after my home town. We'll be back!
