Sam's Chowder House in Half Moon Bay, California |
We took a big group to Sam's Chowder House for lunch. Read my full review with pictures after the break.
A few days before Christmas, my family took our visiting relatives to lunch at Sam's Chowder House and Oyster Bar in Half Moon Bay, CA. Sam's Chowder House was featured on
Eat Street on the Cooking Channel.

Sam's is on the Pacific coast overlooking the bay, and both the weather and view were incredible.

Manhattan clam chowder at Sam's Chowder House |
So at a placed called Sam's Chowder House, the clam chowder had better be good. And it was. Actually, both kinds were delicious. The clams were fresh and plentiful. The New England clam chowder had bacon, too.

Fish and chips at Sam's Chowder House |
Another staple at a seafood joint is the fish and chips, and Sam's delivered the goods. And the fries were good, too.

Seafood spaghetti at Sam's Chowder House |
I ordered the seafood spaghetti, and I was really blown away. All the seafood was fresh, and it was plentiful. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the red sauce was tasty. The seafood spaghetti included prawns, scallops, mussels, clams, and white fish.

Lobster roll at Sam's Chowder House |
My sister-in-law had the lobster roll. Wow, was it ever packed with fresh lobster. I agree with
the review at Focus:Snap:Eat that the lobster might have been seasoned a little more, but there's no complaints about the freshness and quantity.

Cheeseburger at Sam's Chowder House |
One of us wasn't in the mood for seafood and had the cheeseburger. Surprisingly, it was very good! Cooked perfectly to order, and seasoned nicely. I never expect a good burger at a place where they specialize in something very different, so this was a pleasant surprise.
The service was flat-out spectacular. Our waitress was attentive, and the manager came around to ask us how we were enjoying our meal. It was a crowded holiday, and we were a large group, so that speaks even more highly of the service.
Check out
these nice pictures over at Focus:Snap:Eat.
Sam's also has a food truck;
check out the info on Sam's Chowdermobile. And there's a (pricey) gift shop with all kinds of hats, shirts, and goodies.
Did you go out to eat for the holidays? Where did you go? Let me know in the comments below.
