A Pub in Hollywood: The Moon and Sixpence in Portland

After our walk along Sandy Boulevard and stopping at The Grotto, we drove to nearby The Moon and Sixpence British Pub in Portland's Hollywood district. Read my review of The Moon and Sixpence in Portland after the break.

We found The Moon and Sixpence in Walking Portland, an excellent book with many historic and interesting walks in Portland.

The Moon and Sixpence feels like a traditional British pub. There's a full bar, and plenty of benches and tables. Nothing hipster or trendy going on here.

Except when it gets to the beer menu: it's long, complete, and extremely well-selected. Our waiter was glad to bring us samplers of the beer until we found the one we wanted.

Continuing our tour of fish and chips in Portland, we ordered the cod fish and chips. We had the full order, and it was indeed full. The beer batter was crisp without being greasy, and the fish was fresh. These were excellent. The chips were very crispy, which was surprising considering how thick they were. We enjoyed the fish & chips at The Moon and Sixpence enough to put them on my list of Top Portland Fish & Chips.

The cottage pie was excellent. It was full of nicely-seasoned meat, and without too many peas and carrots. I was very full after eating the cottage pie. And the side greens were crisp and fresh (like every other salad I've ever had in Oregon).

As I mentioned about the beer samples, the service was very attentive and friendly.

We enjoyed our dinner at The Moon and Sixpence. It serves traditional British pub fare with an extensive beer list.

TIP: Enjoy a walk along Sandy Boulevard to enjoy the sights of Portland's Hollywood district.

Another place we've tried fish and chips was Horse Brass Pub, another fine British pub in Portland.
