My next stop today was at Double D Cupcakes in Lancaster CA as seen on Cupcake Wars on Food Network. My full review with pictures is after the jump break.

Double D Cupcakes is right off the freeway and easy to get to in a shopping center. There's plenty of parking. I was surprised how large the shop is, with plenty of tables inside, and few outside as well.

There are different flavors of cupcakes depending on the day of the week.

Today is Sunday, and the cupcakes I chose were the Red Dahlia, the Voluptuous Vanilla, and the Caramel Macchiato.

The Red Dahlia is similar to a red velvet cupcake with rich creamy icing and red chocolate cake. Very tasty. (It's pictured at the top of this post.)

The Voluptuous Vanilla was my favorite the the three I tried. It is almost like a cake batter flavor.

The Caramel Macchiato has a chocolate cake with caramel drizzled over the icing.

Each cupcake comes in a small size (smaller than a regular cupcake), and large (larger than a regular cupcake). If you want a lot of variety, get the small ones. If there is one you know you are going to enjoy, then get the large so you can knock yourself out.

These are gourmet cupcakes, and have gourmet prices. I'm not going to tell you whether or not these cupcakes are over-priced, because to me the price matches the quality. Sure, you can get cheaper cupcakes at the supermarket, but those have a lot less flavor and a lot more vegetable oil.

If you order your cupcakes to go, they are safe inside a fancy box.

The staff is really nice and friendly.

As a side note, the shop next door to Double D Cupcakes is a smoke shop; I wonder how many of its customers wander over to Double D Cupcakes afterwards when they need to satisfy the munchies??
