Gumbo at Dooky Chase's airport location in New Orleans

Gumbo at Dooky Chase's airport location in New Orleans
Gumbo at Dooky Chase's airport location in New Orleans
The last time we spent Thanksgiving in New Orleans, we enjoyed the brunch at Dooky Chase's. When we had to fly back home, we noticed there is a new, second location at the Louis Armstrong airport. Turns out this is about as good as any airport food you are likely to have.

Be sure to check out my review of the brunch at the original Dooky Chase's location.

Okra, greens, and green beans

Bargain Po Boys at Captain Sal's Seafood and Chicken in New Orleans

Looking for a bargain on a tasty po boy in New Orleans? Then be sure to stop by Captain Sal's on St. Claude in Bywater. You get your second po boy for half price. And these sandwiches are big, too. Each one is cooked to order so plan on waiting a few minutes for your grub.

There's also chicken, seafood, and Chinese at Captain Sal's. We're going to try them the next time we're in town.

The day we were there, the place got busy as soon as the door opened up. Lots of people were picking up po boys to go (probably for the Saints game later that day).

Check out the menu on Captain Sal's web site.

If you're on the other side of town, be sure to check out the roast beef, firecracker shrimp, and catfish po boys at Parasol's.

Crab at R & M's Boiling Point in New Iberia, Louisiana

Crab at R & M's Boiling Point in New Iberia, Louisiana
If you're out in the Acadian bayou near the Tabasco Tour on Avery Island, be sure to stop in for fresh boiled (or fried) seafood at R & M's Boiling Point in New Iberia, Louisiana. They've got crab, crawfish, catfish, shrimp, frog legs, and po boys too. They are super friendly so you will have a great time along with delicious food.

Messy hands after eating all that crab?
The sinks are right in the dining room!
Grab some seasoning so you can get the R&M taste on your crab at home.
They also sell Swamp Dust for a crawfish boil.

Fried Shrimp Loaded Potato at Cou-Yon's Cajun Bar-B-Q

Fried shrimp loaded potato at Cou-Yon's in Port Allen
Fried shrimp loaded potato at Cou-Yon's in Port Allen (across the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge)
I walked into this barbecue joint in Port Allen (across the Mississippi from Baton Rouge) and said I didn't feel like barbecue. What?? Hey, I just had the worst BBQ in Texas last night at Rudy's, so I asked the nice lady at the counter what else did she suggest. She said they also have seafood (and lots of it). I was a little dazed after the hot drive through the bayou, and she could tell from the blank look on my face that I still couldn't decide what to get. She said, "Get the loaded potato. It's got fried shrimp on it. You'll love it. That's what I always get." But how is a potato supposed to be dinner? The other lady at the counter laughed and said, "Don't worry -- it will fill you up." Find out how I liked the loaded potato in my review of Cou-Yon's Cajun Bar-B-Q in Port Allen after the break.

Crab Boil at The Crab Pot

It was my family's last night in Seattle, and we wanted to end our wonderful week in the Emerald City with a memorable dinner. So what if our pick was a little on the touristy side? Sometimes the tourist places are the most fun. Read my review of the crab boil at The Crab Pot in Seattle after the break.

Frying Fish & Chips at The Frying Scotsman in Portland

The Frying Scotsman is a food trailer in a downtown Portland food pod as seen on Eat Street. There's just one guy with a Scottish accent in there, and he's frying up fresh fish and chips. And it doesn't get any fresher than this -- your fried fish is dumped directly from the fryer into your to-go box. There's no intermediate stop at a draining station. See more pictures after the break.
