Original Frito Pie at Five and Dime in Santa Fe, New Mexico
Ever wonder where the Frito pie got its start? It was at a Woolworth's in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The original place is no longer there, but in it's place is a the Five and Dime. It's a souvenir shop with a snack bar at the back, and it still serves the Frito pie just like back in the beginning: pinto beans, red chile sauce, and shredded cheddar cheese. And it's served right in the bag of Fritos.

You can can your own onions.

The chili is hot right out of the pot so watch your fingers. But the heat softens the Frito chips and melts the cheese, and soon you're ready to dig into your treat.

It's spicy! Maybe not the spiciest thing you've ever had, but the red chile sauce is packing plenty of heat in that little bag of Fritos.

  1. This reminds me of childhood when we would purchase chili Fritos at the corner market. Thanks for the memories!
