Citizen Eatery is new meat-free restaurant in Austin serving local farm-to-table breakfast and burgers. It's also got a bar with a happy hour, so read my full review of the latest addition to Austin's thriving vegetarian and vegan scene after the jump.

I ate quite a few green chile cheeseburgers last month in New Mexico, so how could I pass up the house wood-smoked burger made with Hatch green chiles, white beans, mushrooms, grains, and kale? Well, I couldn't. And I'm glad I didn't. The smoky flavor really game through, and the patty had a nice char on it. It's topped with Hatch green chiles which give the burger some sweetness with just a little bit of spicy heat. This was a really good burger and stands up to its meaty counterparts.

The salad was excellent. The greens and tomatoes were fresh and tasty.

Citizen Eatery serves Kosmic Kombucha on tap. I'd never even heard of kombucha before, so I gave it a try. This was the Groovy Green flavor which is organic kombucha, kiwi, pineapple, coconut, wheatgrass, and agave. It's brewed right here in Austin. It's slightly carbonated and very refreshing. It was the perfect drink along side the smoked green chile burger.

You can also buy Kosmic Kombucha at Whole Foods Market and other stores. Check out the Kosmic Kombucha web site

So if you're in Austin, give Citizen Eatery a visit and help support one of Austin's newest vegetarian & vegan eateries. Check out the menu at the Citizen Eatery web site and also the Citizen Eatery page on Facebook.
