Field Roast veggie Chipotle dog at Dat Dog in New Orleans

My family is arriving in New Orleans to join me for Thanksgiving week, and our first stop was one of the Dat Dog locations near the French Quarter. Read my review of the veggie hot dogs at Dat Dog after the jump.

Dat Dog has several locations in New Orleans, and I took my daughter to the one just outside of the French Quarter in Marigny. It's got balcony seating, too, but sadly this was not open for seating today. Too bad because the weather was amazing and who doesn't want to sit in the balcony in New Orleans?

There are all kinds of hot dogs and sausages to choose from, including gator. I got one of the three vegetarian options. These are all Field Roast dogs. I got Mexican Chipotle – a spicy-hot blend of smoked Chipotle peppers, Chili de Arbol peppers, fresh chopped garlic, sweet onions seasoned with cumin seed and oregano. Dat Dog grills it nicely, and you get to pick from a long list of toppings. I added guacamole and tomatoes. This was really good and I will definitely look for Field Roast sausages at the store when I get home.

You can buy Field Roast vegetarian sausages at many stores. More about Field Roast vegetarian sausages on the Field Roast web site.

My daughter got the crawfish étouffée dog which is Crawfish Sausage, Homemade Crawfish Etouffee, Sour Cream, Onions, Tomatoes, & Creole Mustard. She liked it.

The place has lively decorations and a full bar. No sidewalk seating, but there's an upstairs outside balcony (if it's open for seating -- check ahead).

Find a Dat Dog location in New Orleans and read their full men on the Dat Dog web site. Also check out the Dat Dog page on Facebook.
